The Coffee and Its Flavor
This organic Sumatra coffee showcases the classic wet-hulled Gayo profile, producing a rich, full-bodied cup with earthy chocolate and spice notes. The wet-hulling process creates a darker, thicker tone and low acidity, giving the cup a rustic, semi-sweet richness. Subtle peaty and herbal undertones mingle with hints of smoky and floral notes, adding depth and complexity. At a medium roast, this coffee strikes a balance between the traditional Sumatra earthiness and smooth chocolaty tones, delivering a robust cup everyone can enjoy.
About the Source/Farm
Gayo coffee farmers cultivate small plots (around 2.5 acres each) in the mountainous Aceh region. Using traditional wet-hulling methods—known locally as Giling Basah—the beans are depulped, fermented, washed, and partially dried in parchment before being hulled while still moist and finished for export. This method imparts the signature dark tone, low acidity, and bold chocolate and spice flavors unique to Sumatra. The coffee comes from a network of smallholder farms that prioritize quality, organic practices, and careful post-harvest handling to preserve the classic Sumatra cup profile.
