The Coffee and Its Flavor

This medium roast Indonesian coffee offers a unique flavor profile with a clean, crisp cup that balances fruity brightness and earthy chocolate notes. The natural processing imparts a delightful sweetness, with a hint of citric brightness and strong fruit tones. Unlike many traditional Indonesian coffees, this one shines at lighter to medium roasts, offering a balanced, exotic cup that is both sweet and slightly earthy. At a medium roast, it maintains its crisp and clean qualities, with a smooth finish that balances the fruitiness with classic Indonesian chocolate undertones.

About the Source/Farm

Rantekarua Estate is located in the Tana Toraja region of southern Sulawesi, Indonesia, and spans 1,200 hectares, 700 of which are planted with coffee. Originally established by a Dutch company and nationalized in 1945, the estate has been rehabilitated over the years and is now owned and operated by the Sulotco Jaya Abadi group. The estate is known for its organic practices and its full wet-mill, which processes coffee using state-of-the-art Pinhalense equipment.

The estate’s natural processed coffees stand out for their sweetness and fruity flavors, thanks to the unique conditions in this part of Sulawesi. The coffee cherries are carefully processed with flotation, pulping, fermentation, washing, and extended drying on raised beds under cover to ensure high quality. In addition to the estate's own farmed coffee, it also purchases cherries and wet-parchment from out-growers in the region.

The estate is located at a high elevation of 1,500 meters, and while the road to the processing facility is difficult and remote, the quality of the coffee produced here is exceptional. The estate’s commitment to organic farming and quality processing ensures that this coffee stands out for both its unique flavor profile and the sustainable practices behind its production.
