The Coffee and Its Flavor
This Papua New Guinea coffee shines at a medium roast, producing a smooth, medium‑bodied cup with rich chocolate tones and low, approachable acidity. A gentle hint of brightness appears up front, giving way to caramel sweetness and soft floral nuances, while a subtle spice note lingers on the finish. Balanced, comforting, and versatile, this is a wonderfully drinkable everyday coffee with a depth that keeps each cup interesting.
About the Source / Cooperative
Coffee production in Papua New Guinea is often described as the “Wild West” of the coffee world, and Siane Chimbu exemplifies this uniquely decentralized model. Instead of a single estate, coffee cherries are harvested daily by smallholder farmers and family members from gardens, villages, natural areas, and small plots across the region, then delivered to centralized processing centers where quality is evaluated and purchased. This coffee is sourced from farms organized through the Siane Organic Agriculture Cooperative (SOAC), located in the Chuave district of Chimbu (Simbu) Province—an important highland region known for organically grown coffee and rugged terrain near Mount Wilhelm, the country’s tallest peak. Through direct trade market access, organic certification support, financing, quality improvement, and community‑based initiatives promoting gender equality and education, SOAC helps ensure that each harvest benefits both exceptional coffee quality and the people behind it.
